Things people actually ask.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New businesses get their first month free, on Basic or Pro, monthly or annual. You set up a Direct Debit for your plan when you sign up, but nothing is taken until the free month ends. We email you when your free month starts, with the date it ends and the date and amount of your first payment, and again 10 days before it ends. It's one free month per business: if your email address has had a Petboard subscription before, billing starts straight away.
What happens when the free month ends?
Your first payment is taken a few working days after your free month ends (we email you both dates). Monthly plans are then billed every month. Annual plans pay the full annual price then, and once a year after that. Cancel any time before your free month ends and you won't pay anything: your account stays open until the date your first payment would have been taken, then closes.
Does the free month cover payment fees?
The free month covers your plan's price. On Pro, the usual fee on online payments still applies to any payments your customers make during it.
Is there a long-term contract?
Monthly plans cancel any time. Annual plans run for a year and renew automatically. We email you 14 days before each renewal, so it never comes as a surprise.
What does the payment fee cover?
The all-in 2.4% + 20p (capped at £11, excludes VAT) bundles GoCardless's own bank Direct Debit processing with Petboard's platform share. It pays for keeping the payments side reliable (handling failed collections, refunds, and the occasional dispute) and for the engineering work that makes sure invoices, deposits and payouts stay clean for your accountant.
How long are shared photos and videos kept?
They're kept for 90 days, then automatically cleared, partly to respect owners' privacy, partly to keep things tidy. There's no storage meter and no overage charge: fair use applies, and we'll only ever get in touch if something's wildly out of the ordinary.
Can I switch tiers later?
Yes. During your free month, you can change plan from your account page at no charge, right up until it ends. After that, upgrades take effect immediately (we prorate the difference) and downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
Where is my data stored?
EU data centres only. We partner with EU-based subprocessors for everything that handles personal data. UK GDPR / EU GDPR-native by default.
Do I need a GoCardless account?
Only for Pro (the tier that takes online bank payments). Setup is part of onboarding and takes about 10 minutes: your business identity, bank details, and you're done.
